On Any Sunday: Sunday Tournament Weekly Wrap-up

PokerStars, the king of the online poker jungle, set another milestone for record attendance in their popular Sunday Million tournament, offering a “Special Edition” of the tourney with a hefty $2 million guarantee. When the dust had cleared an online poker player who uses the name OX45AL had taken down a record prize pool, winning over a half a million dollars.
The numbers spoke for themselves: the largest ever Sunday Million field equaled 19,377 players and the largest ever Sunday Million prize pool added up to almost 4 million dollars, a whopping $3,875,400. The previous PokerStars record was short lived having been set back in November of 2009 with a field of 18,283 players and a prize pool of around $3.6 million.

This past Sunday was also a super smash at Full Tilt Poker who were in the process of closing out their $25 Million Double Guarantees Week promo with a grand finale monster bash called Big Money Sunday. The weekly $750K Sunday Guarantee tournament was of course doubled to become a $1.5 million guarantee tournament. A swarm of 7,578 players battled it out for a prize pool totaling $1,515,600, with first place being worth a quarter of a million dollars.

Additionally, in keeping with this week’s theme of mega Sunday events, UB.com held its UB Online Championship (UBOC) thousand-dollar buy-in Main Event, with 1307 players easily covering the million-dollar guarantee. The top prize here was worth almost $300,000 and 135 places were paid in all.

This week’s event drew 497 entrants – clearly not enough to cover the 100K guarantee – prompting Bodog to add over 24 grand to the pot.
