Poker Player Robbed Of His Poker WinningsWilliam Florence once said, “There is no sympathy in poker. Always keep cool. If you lose your head you will lose all your chips.” Such was the case in 2009 for a professional poker player who kept his head at the table, but lost it, along with his poker winnings, in his hotel room.

Testimony from the recent trial showed that on February 17, 2009, the unnamed player won approximately $9,000 playing poker at the Horseshoe Casino poker room in Hammond, Indiana. His success caught the eye of Lakasha Johnson, a 27 year-old woman who proceeded to sit down with the player and start a conversation.

Apparently the player, who had played so well, forgot the famous words of Amarillo Slim, “If, after the first twenty minutes, you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, it’s you.” The two ended up back at his hotel room, where they spent the evening. When the player woke up, he quickly realized that a couple of things were missing from his room; namely, the woman and his money.

Deftly opting to hide his poker winnings behind the TV, the “sucker at the table” must have been stunned to find out that his temptress had left before he awoke and went all-in with his money.

The good news for this shrewd player is that police were able to track down Johnson, a jury convicted her of theft, and the judge ordered repayment of the money. The verdict was certainly good news for the poker player, who could obviously read the players at his table, but not the woman he invited into his bed.
