PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Berlin Main Event guaranteed a first prize €1 million Euros, nonstop poker action, a blitzkrieg of a Main Event, and that is what drew an impressive field of professional poker players to Germany from all over the world.
It also drew a team of thieves who attempted to make off with the first prize loot on Saturday, but that’s another story.
After a three-hour delay, the tournament being held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel resumed even as police investigating the robbery swarmed the ballroom.
The eventual winner, Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee can add another million euro to his bankroll. MacPhee, who qualified on PokerStars, outlasted a field of 945 and made the eight-handed final table graced with the status of chip leader.
“I am a luck-sack,” MacPhee said. “What can I say? I ran extremely good and I had the nuts every time someone played back at me.”
The truth was the poker player from Idaho played some of the best poker of his life and many witnesses characterized the final table as one of the best in recent memory.
