PokerStars has just inducted a new member to Team PokerStars, English poker pro Julian Thew. Thew, also known among his compatriots by the nickname Yo-Yo for the manner in which his chipstack is constantly fluctuating up and down, is one of the most likable pros on the international poker scene.
Originally from Nottingham, Thew had this to say about his gaining membership in poker’s most elite group, “I’m thrilled to have been offered a spot on Team PokerStars Pro and I look forward to promoting the brand on my travels throughout the year.”
Known for his trademark aggressive style of play, Thew is a highly respected player who has won approximately $2.5 million in the course of his career since turning pro in 2001. He is ranked 12th among British players and leads the pack on the EPT tournament leader board.
The other four members of Team PokerStars Pro UK include Jude Ainsworth, Vicky Coren, John Duthie, and JP Kelly.
His greatest single victory thus far was taking first in the EPT Baden Classic, winning close to one million USD. Other notable cashes include the 2008 Deep Stack Extravaganza III, winning over $250,000, the 2007 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour for $176,000 and the 2006 Barcelona Open for a top prize of $52,828.
Married and the father of two children, Thew is regarded highly not only for his poker playing prowess, but for the dignity he brings to the table, and for that he is considered something of an ambassador for the cause of British poker on the global scene.
