Strong Day 5 Action at PokerStars WCOOP

2010 PokerStars WCOOP $50 Million GuaranteedEnglish poet William Cowper once penned, “Variety’s the very spice of life; that gives it all its flavor.” If that statement is true, Day 5 action at the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker most certainly made Thursday a spicy day. Omaha High/Low, No Limit Hold’em and Razz were on tap, and each event at the online poker room proved to be poetry in motion.

Event 13 – Kroko-dill Takes Bite Out of Omaha

Event 13, the $215 Pot-Limit Omaha High/Low Six-Max Cubed was the first tournament out of the gate on Thursday. The $200K guaranteed payout brought in 831 players who drove the prize pool well past the guarantee with $357,800. With 6-max tables, an extra rebuy and an add-on, the action was fast and furious. Some of the top Team PokerStars pros made the scene but didn’t cash, including Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Vicky Coren, Barry Greenstein, Bertrand Grospellier, David Williams, Marcel Luske and Jason Mercier.

In the end, Kroko-dill munched on the competition, taking the bracelets and first place. Event 13 was his second appearance at a final table in this year’s WCOOP and he used the experience to his advantage. The final table and payout results were:

1.    Kroko-dill                        $63,080.14

2.    SiiliSuhonen                        $46,514.00

3.    DynamiteDraw            $35,780.00

4.    Ilari Tahkokallio            $25,046.00

5.    Gbmantis                        $17,890.00

6.    chico134                        $10,734.00

Event 14 – “knecht_poker” Grabs Final Bounty, Knocks Out Field

Event 14, the $265 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Max Knockout offered a great way for players to make money while taking out their frustrations on the field of 3,325 players. Like so many other events, the $400K guarantee was destroyed, with players vying for a piece of the $665,000 pot in addition to the $50 bounties that were placed on each player.

By the time the tournament reached heads-up, knecht_poker and “a365551” were virtually tied, although that situation would only be short-lived. The heads-up battle only lasted 15 hands, as knecht_poker flopped a set of 8s on the final hand to pick up the bounty on his opponent and win the tournament. The final table standings and payouts were:

1.    knecht_poker            $104,737.50

2.    a365551                        $76,475.00

3.    SCAINS2                        $55,860.00

4.    Mrazeg                        $36,242.00

5.    LazersNUTS                        $23,155.30

6.    VM47                                    $11,803.75

Event 15 – All That Razz

For many poker players, Razz enjoys a love-hate attraction; Event 15, the $215 Razz tournament probably earned just that sort of response. One of the rare events in the 2010 WCOOP, the 976 who joined the tourney didn’t match the $250,000 guarantee, meaning that PokerStars kicked in an overlay of $54,800.

With “TDT07” sitting as the chip leader entering the final hand, talk immediately went to the discussion of a chop. Saying he would accept nothing less than $40,000, TDT07 emphasized, “If I ever do an 8-way chop in my life please just shoot me in the face.” In the end, the move was very good for the leader, as he grabbed the bracelet and exceeded his goal with a victory. The totals at the final table were:

1.    TDT07                        $41,787.50

2.    MadisonAce29            $36,787.50

3.    STUDMANRONN            $25,000.00

4.    Danny Smith                        $18,750.00

5.    Mddgfc                        $12,500.00

6.    Unibasjoe                        $8,750.00

7.    Solody                        $5,625.00

8.    cal42688                        $3,750.00
