World Series of Poker Main Event Day 1BTweet Share
PokerRoomReview.com caught a good deal of the WSOP Main Event Day 1B action from the rail on Tuesday. With almost 1,500 runners for this seating, both the Pavilion and Amazon rooms of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino were crowded with players, camera crews and rail birds alike. By the end of the day, somewhere around midnight, roughly a third of the pack had been sent home, including a number of surprises.
Team UB unfortunately saw pros Joe Sebok and Liv Boeree hit the rail, though Brandon Cantu managed to finish his first day with a decent sized chip stack. We caught up with Full Tilt Poker team member Erick Lindgren shortly before he busted out; and watched Full Tilt pro Annette “Annette_15” Obrestad at one of the ESPN featured tables before she eventually hit the rail with just an hour left in her first day. On a more positive note, we saw Tilt pro and 2010 bracelet winner Gavin Smith on the ESPN main stage as he worked his way through an above average start to the Main Event.
Team PokerStars took some hits on the second seating of Day 1 action, as we watched Ivan Demidov, Bertrand Grospellier and Arnuad Mattern make early exits. Grospellier, known online as “ElkY”, ended his day in the Amazon room less than 6 hours after it began. Making his exit even earlier was PokerStars pro Mattern, known in the online poker world as “FrenchKiss”. Arnuad’s bust out was the definition of adding insult to injury, as Mattern was already suffering from a broken foot, as evidenced by his PokerStars logo-adorned cast. Despite his early one-footed exit, Mattern appeared to be in good spirits though when he spoke with PokerRoomReview.com. On a positive note for Team PokerStars, pro Gavin Griffin finished up with a healthy stack, ending his first day in the top 50 of all Day 1B runners.
Day 1C begins in a few hours. We’ll be making the long walk to the back of the Rio shortly to catch the Phil Hellmuth grand entrance as well as the rest of the action at this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event. Stay tuned.
