Phil Gordon Tops Shannon Elizabeth in WSOP Charity EventTweet Share
Poker Room Review was on hand as a small crowd gathered around the Ante Up For Africa final table at this year’s World Series of Poker. Only three players remained, Phil Gordon, Shannon Elizabeth and Alex Filatov. In a battle of shoves and blind steals, Gordon first found himself in trouble against Filatov, having pushed his Js 8s against Alex’s Ac 10c. However, the river brought a miracle Jack for Gordon, washing Filatov out in 3rd place. Shortly thereafter, Elizabeth moved all in with Kc 10h. With his monster chip lead, Gordon looked up the American Pie actress with his Qh 3s and was quickly rewarded as another Queen came on the flop. With no help coming for Elizabeth, Gordon took down the pot and the victory.
“I always wanted to win an event at the World Series of Poker,” said Gordon after the win. “Of course, it had to be a non-gold bracelet event.” Stating that his $130k winner’s take would go to the charity, Gordon continued by saying that he was “thrilled to win such an important honor and am pledging all of my winnings to the Ante Up for Africa cause.” The small crowd, including Annie Duke and actor Don Cheadle applauded the gesture.
The madness of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event begins tomorrow with the first of four “Day 1” seatings starting at noon Vegas time.
