Mike Matusow, Ted Forrest Weigh In on Poker Prop Bet

With a repeat of a prop bet they had a couple of years ago, pro poker players Mike Matusow and Ted Forrest have a weight loss challenge going on right now, with Forrest assuming the role of the “loser.” Targeting the dates of July 15th and September 15th, the bet has become part of the plethora of 2010 World Series of Poker side bets.

This bet, allegedly made while both men were drunk, has two target dates. Forrest, now in the low 170s after starting at an athletic 188, has to reach 139 pounds. If he does so by July 15th, Matusow is on the hook for an incredible $2 million; if Forrest makes his goal by September 15th, “The Mouth” still has to put up $1 million. Missing both dates means Forrest has to fork over $150,000.

“I expect him to easily get down to 152,” continued Matusow. “We calculated it with muscle mass and body weight. When he gets to 152 he will hit a plateau of just eating his organs. As soon as he eats one thing he will gain a pound. He will basically have to starve himself and reform his whole body.”

For his part, Forrest is avoiding junk food and using aerobic exercise to speed up his metabolism. “People have no idea, before fast food places and steroids in the food people just didn’t look like how they look now,” said Forrest. “The last time I weighed 139 was probably high school but I have been in the low 140s as a young adult. That was actually when I didn’t have enough money to eat at fast food places.”

Both players have offered to let the other one buy out for a cheaper price, but so far no deals have been reached. Matusow is convinced he won’t make it, taunting Forrest and saying, “He has no chance. I think he might die. I had him sign a death certificate to be paid if he dies.”
