With more than 700 players, 800-plus rebuys and some 527 add-ons, the 2010 PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) Event #3-High saw a prize pool of more than one million dollars. The $530 No-Limit Hold’em tournament ground into the early morning hours before Corey “Comandr_Cool” Burbick topped off an amazing come-from-behind effort to walk away with the $183,060 pay day.
With a 10 to 1 chip deficit at one point, Burbick battled his way to a heads up showdown with Shawn “buck21″ Buchanan for the championship. On the final hand of an extremely long tournament, with “Comandr_Cool” holding a slim chip lead over “buck21″, Burbick called a raise of 77,000 before the flop of 10h 8c 3c hit the board. Burbick fired 105,000, Buchanan called. With a Jd hitting on the turn, Burbick made it 245,000 and, with a call, both players headed for the river. When the 5h hit, “Comandr_Cool” fired 630,000 only to see buck21 shove. No problem though. With a quick call, showing 9d 7d for the jack-high straight, Burbick crushed Buchanan’s As Ks holding.
For his second place finish, buck21 cashed a very nice $137,925 sum. Other notables in the event included several members of Team PokerStars — Chad Brown, Vanessa Rousso and Barry Greenstein among others, 2009 SCOOP Champ Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi and 2009 WSOP November Nine-er Dennis Phillips. The top of the leader board looked like this at the end of play:
1. Corey “Comandr_Cool” Burbick ($183,060)
2. Shawn “buck21″ Buchanan ($137,925)
3. e1mdopp ($101,700)
4. Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi ($71,190)
5. Jason “JP OSU” Potter ($50,850)
6. jvans ($30,510)
