Capping of 12 days and 20 events of intense poker action, the UB.com Online Championship 5 (UBOC5) saw its run end with a bang, thanks to a great main event. A huge crowd came out to ensure the event exceeded the $1 million guaranteed prize pool, and leave people talking about the online poker played on UB and Absolute Poker.
Sunday night’s main event drew an impressive 1,032 players, each paying the $1,000+$50 buy-in to get a shot at their share of $1 million. Event 20, the Championship Monster Stack No Limit Hold’em. All totaled, 99 players finished in the money, with each player at the final table receiving at least $17,544. The top nine payouts (after a chop by the top 4) were:
- Charlie “CHAZ_MAN_C” Combes $136,178.00
- TOOCURIOUSSO $95,000.00
- Pamela “VENUSIGNA” Quesada $152,000.00
- WALLABAER $145,000.00
- Peter “APATHY123″ Jetten $56,244.00
- WAMMERMOUTH $45,924.00
- MST_MORPHEUS $35,604.00
- Craig “1GENERAL_TAO” Bergeron $25,284.00
- Riccardo “DONRIKY” Cantafora $17,544.00
With its large prize pool, the tournament drew a large number of pros, hoping to cash in on the event. Hosted by UB’s own Phil Hellmuth, (who finished 716th) Team UB.com players involved included Annie Duke (170th), Trishelle Cannatella (954th), Tiffany Michelle (887th), “Hollywood Dave” Stann (752nd), Hellmuth (716th), Matt Graham (583rd), Mark Seif (527th), Mark “Poker Ho” Kroon (520th), Joe Sebok (314th), Scott Ian (286th), Eric Baldwin (262nd), Adam “Roothlus” Levy (202nd) and Gary “DEBO 34” Debernardi. (170th) Other well-known players in the mix included online pro Joshua “PBDRUNKS” Van Duyn, who hit the rail in 50th place, and Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka, who made it all the way to 22nd place.
After dominating early in the event, Billy “Patrolman35” Kopp experienced a heart-breaking bout of déjà-vu. The top-placing UB.com pro had a massive chip lead and seemed destined to make the final table, only to bust out in 12th place. Kopp also had a devastating 12th place finish last year, when he missed out on a birth at the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Final Table, being knocked by runner-up Darvin Moon.
The UBOC 5 Main Event offered the perfect ending for a great tournament at UB.com. Many events exceeded their guarantees, meaning that the tournament offered not only great prizes, but great poker action as well.
