2009 WSOP Main Event Winner Joe CadaCanadian poker pro Joe Cada opened up recently on his PokerStars blog about the World Series of Poker, the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, and even his living arrangements during poker’s biggest event. While disappointed with this year’s results, Cada, the 2009 Main Event winner, still maintains his perspective and drive going forward.

A strong performance at the 2009 WSOP saw Cada cash three times for over $8.5 million. The biggest of those cashes wasn’t claimed until November, when Cada made his way through a Main Event Final Table that included such players as Eric Buchman and the legendary Phil Ivey. His win made him the youngest Main Event champion ever, picking up his bracelet just short of his 22nd birthday.

The 2010 WSOP wasn’t nearly as kind to the young pro. Cada went through all 57 events without so much as one cash, stating, “I put the ‘brick’ in ‘brick and mortar casino’!”

The whole tournament served to refocus Cada moving forward. The recently completed PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour Brazil event re-ignited his competitive spirit. Cada admitted, “LAPT Brazil marked the first stop of my re-dedication to poker. I took some time off, mentally at least, for the victory lap [after the 2009 Main Event], but you can expect to see me grinding it pretty hard in the coming months, especially at the upcoming WCOOP.”

Saying that “the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker continues to be the pinnacle in online tournaments”, Cada referred to it as, “the World Series of the online world. He rekindled enthusiasm for the game will once again make him dangerous as tournament poker moves online.

Maintaining his perspective, Cada confessed, “I may have bricked 90% of the tournaments I’ve played since last year’s Main Event, but I am still 100% grateful. In 2009 I was able to accomplish something that millions of people dream of.” Already a great poker player, Cada’s honest assessment of his game and ability will make him a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
