After Day 2 leader Phil Collins hit the rail Monday, Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little and Andrew Frankenberger picked up the slack, leading the remaining 15 players into Day 4 action that will set the final table. Held at the famous Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, the highly regarded tournament has seen 447 of the original players excused from the table as each vies for the top spot and $750,000 prize.
Collins used a huge run on Sunday to open up a big lead, but he was unable to hold it together, first going over a million chips early in Day 3, and then plummeting to a 29th place finish. Collins wasn’t the only notable elimination, as Allen Kessler, Darryll Fish and David “Doc” Sands all were sent to the rail.
With the blinds climbing to 5,000/10,000 and a 1,000 ante, the pressure began to take its tool as 45 of the 60 players who started the day were sent to the exits. Day 4 play will go until a final table of 6 is in place for Wednesday’s action.
Little is looking to overtake Frankenberger in order to capture his third WPT title. Little’s first title came in 2007 when he took the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown, earning $1,091,295 for the win. In 2008, he won the WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals, marking his second win on the tour.
Overtaking Frankenberger will be a tough order, as he pushed his stack to nearly 2 million. The chip counts for the top ten entering Day 4 action are:
- Andrew Frankenberger 1,958,000
- Jonathan Little 1,314,000
- Steve Reitzfeld 1,200,000
- John Smith 1,005,000
- Tom Braband 936,000
- Adam Schiffer 868,000
- Franco Brunetti 795,000
- Kyle McCammond 615,000
- Tyler Cornell 581,000
